Inside a Large-Scale FMCG Warehouse: What I Learned on the Floor

As part of our study on inventory and warehouse management, I had the opportunity to visit a large-scale FMCG warehouse. It was one thing to read about receiving, storage, picking, and dispatch — and another thing entirely to watch them happen in rhythm.
What stood out
An organized warehouse layout is the foundation of smooth operations — everything has a place, and the flow follows it.
FIFO isn't just a textbook term: it's how fast-moving stock stays fresh and waste stays low.
Technology like barcode systems quietly guarantees accuracy across thousands of movements a day.
Safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency aren't separate goals — they reinforce each other.
Theory meets practice
Access to some areas was limited due to confidentiality, but that constraint itself was instructive — real operations protect their data and their processes. The visit helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application more than any lecture could.
